This fine quality Victorian walking stick cane which has a Malacca shaft has a silver hallmarked collar, brass ferrule and a beautifully hand chased decorative pommel handle with coloured highlights.

This long and sturdy walking cane was presented to Sergeant W Clarke DCLI in 1888 and has an interesting inscription to the silver hallmarked collar which reads:

Presented To Sergt W Clarke DCLI.

By Officers NCO's and Men of B Company DCLI.

As a Mark of Esteem.

May 31st 1888.

The DCLI (Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry) was formed in 1881 through the merging of the 32nd and 46th Regiments of Foot. In 1888, the various battalions of the regiment were fulfilling home and overseas garrison duties in Malta and India.

A very nice usable and sturdy Malacca stick with a pronounced ridge and is a very good length at 94 cm. Would make a great gift for a walking stick collector.

Hallmarked: Leopards head for London. Date letter M for 1887. Queen Victoria head. Makers mark JRC.

Condition: Very good used antique condition with some signs of use in keeping with age. A few marks, scratches, small splits and dings. Hallmarks are slightly rubbed. Please see pictures.
