This scarce antique Longue Paume racket which is made of wood has a teardrop shape head with stringing, a very long square handle and is marked in gold with the maker's mark of C Rouillard and Bte SGDG Amiens to the throat.
This early racket dates from the late 19th century so is a nice rare example that would make an interesting collectible item or a museum piece.
Longue paume which is also known as jeu de longue paume (or long tennis) is an outdoor version of jeu de paume which is an ancestor of modern lawn tennis. It has been popularly played for several centuries in France and was played as part of the Paris 1900 Summer Olympics. This is still played today being mostly played in Picardy, France with the governing body (Federation Francaise de Longue Paume) having it's headquarters in Amiens.
