This handsome Georgian fire bucket which was hand made in the early 19th century from thick high quality leather, has a wonderful aged patina and is marked to the underside with the maker's details of Hepburn and Gale Ltd.
Hepburn and Gale was started in the 1770s by the owner John Hepburn who purchased three tanneries. They merged with several companies over the years and still operate today under the name of Barrow Hepburn and Gale who holds royal warrants for the supply and repair of ministerial dispatch cases and the manufacture of purses for the distribution of Maundy Money.
This top quality bucket has a studded copper band around the top edge, studs down the side seam and also around the bottom edge. The leather handle is nice and sturdy and has a metal ring to each side.
A very nice usable Georgian bucket with a beautiful patina by a top maker and good to be marked with their details. Would make a stunning waste paper bin / basket and will look great in the home.
