This fabulous bilboquet which dates from c1820 would have been made by hand by using materials available to hand like mutton bone and string. Possibly made by a Napoleonic prisoner of war.
This antique cup and ball game has a carved bone handle with a spike to one end and a shallow cup to the other end. The small carved ball is attached to the centre of the handle by a string. The object of the game being to catch the ball on the spike or alternatively on the cup at the other end.
These games were very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries and enjoyed by both children and adults.
This unique 19th century cup and ball game would make a very nice collector's piece.
