This large handsome Japanese bronze Hibachi or Fire Bowl, is a traditional Japanese heating device designed to hold burning charcoal but nowadays these items make wonderful decorative pieces or can be used as a Jardiniere.
This one dates from the Meiji Period (1868-1912) and is decorated with foliage and flowers. The two handles are in the form of a stylish butterfly. Signed Yoshimasa to base.
The condition is good with a well aged patina, some scratches to bottom, some rubbed areas and light surface scratches. The inside has a coating of green / black oxidation. Please see pictures.
