This beautiful pair of large wooden Indian clubs or meels which date from c1900 are made by Frank Sugg Ltd of Liverpool and each is stamped with the maker's mark to the body and with E2 to the ends.

This handsome pair of clubs have a lovely golden patina and colour, have slender shafts and large pointed heads which gives them a very decorative look. Each one is a nice weight at approx 307 grams and size at approx 54 cm (21 1/4") in length.

Indian clubs are a type of exercise equipment used for developing strength. They were swung in certain patterns as part of an exercise program and were popular in the late 1800's and early 20th century. Today these nice items of antique sporting equipment make fantastic decorative home or gym display items and super props.
